Martial arts is a fantastic way for children to learn self-defence, discipline and respect whilst also increasing confidence, self-esteem, fitness and stamina in addition to improving balance and co-ordination. Class Structure:
The kid’s classes will cover all elements of muay thai boxing / kick boxing / self-defence. These classes are fun, energetic and progressive.
As an overall guide, this is what can be expected in the classes, but will vary between the age groups:
A typical class will begin with a warm up, including running, forward rolls, bear crawls and stretching – all things to get the entire body warmed up. The instructor will then demonstrate various techniques or drills, which the children will then be working for that lesson, in pairs or groups. This could be pad work, self defence techniques or situational drills. Help and advice will be given throughout the class by the instructors. The older and more experienced children are always encouraged to help the newer members of class.
The children will also be given the opportunity to put these techniques into practice in a controlled sparring practice. No head shots are allowed but children should wear gum shields, shin guards and their boxing gloves. We will also provide body shields. No children will be forced to take part if they do not want to.
Clothing and equipment:
We do not have a formal uniform but children should be dressed in comfortable clothing. Shorts / leggings/ tracksuit bottoms without zips or pockets and a t-shirt is ideal. No Jewellery should be worn. Shoes and socks should be removed before walking on the mats. Long hair should be tied up.
Children will need boxing gloves. Juniors will also need shin guards and mouth guards.
Please also ensure to bring a bottle of drinking water.
